FRENCH ’PLANE’S FALL. LINER’S BOAT RESCUES PILOT. JERVIS BAY PASSENGERS. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 18, 11.35 a.m. LONDON, April 17. The liner Jervis Bay’s six hundred passengers had the unexpected thrill of witnessing the rescue of a French airman whose ’plane sank eight miles north of Bizerta. Three ’planes were flying in formation near the liner when one fell. The Jervis Bay stopped and lowered a boat. After half an hour’s search they found the pilot, Charles Petus, clinging to a piece of wreckage. He was uninjured. He was later returned by a French seaplane after his squadron at Sedhanied had been, infoimed by wireless. Bizerta is a seaport of Tunis, and since 1881 has been held by the French who have strongly fortified this, the most northerly town of Africa, making it into a great naval station.
