BRANCH MEETING. The first meeting of the 1934 season of the Feilding branch of the British Music Society was held on Monday night at the residence of Mr and Mrs C. A. Hausmann. Those present were Mr and Mrs Hausmann, Miss N. Hausmann, Mr M. Hausmann, Mr F. J. Jones and Mr R. F. Jones, Mr and Mrs G. A. Palmer, Mr and Mrs E. A. Golding, Mrs Lock, Mrs Bigham, Miss M. Guy, Miss F. Revere, Miss D. Whitehead, Miss K. Salter, Mjss Gwen Humphreys, Miss L. Guy, Miss M. Garrett, Miss McGruer. Miss R. McClure, Misses Y. and B. Blamires and Mr N. Shelton. The following programme, arranged by Mr R. R. F. Jones, was presented: —Trios, Miss M. Garrett (piano), Miss N. Hausmann (’cello), Miss McGruer (violin); vocal solos, Mrs Bigham, Miss M. Guy and Mr N. Shelton; gianoforte solos, Miss F. Revere, Miss wen Humphreys, Miss M. Garrett; ’cello solo, Miss N. Hausmann; lecturette on Rosina Bucliman, Mr R. F. Jones; violin and piano sonata, Misses V. and B. Blamires. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Bigham, Miss M. Garrett, Mr R. R. F. Jones and Mr A. E. Palmer. An amusing competition based on the composers’ names was won by Miss F. Revere. Supper was served bv Mrs Hausmann, Mrs Palmer, Miss McClure and Miss M. Guy. and a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Hausmann for the use of their home for the meeting concluded the evening. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. CHELTENHAM MEETING. An attendance of about 100 members and friends was present at tire April meeting of the Cheltenham Women s Institute. Mrs E. E. Short presided. It was agreed to enter a display from the institute in the Manawatu A. and P. Association’s competition at the next show in both handcraft and stocking and pantry sections provided the federation decided to combine with the show committee. Arrangements were made for the institute flower show to be held at the next meeting. Mrs A. C. McCorkindale, of Feilding, gave an address on the Dominion loan handcraft collection, the meeting making a donation of £1 Is towards the purchase of articles for the collection.. Mrs Simpson, of Woodville, gave an interesting demonstration on how to make slippers with heels of embossed leather and also gave various recipes and home hints of value. A character sketch, ‘‘Her Night Thoughts,” was given by Mrs L. Baker. Mrs Curtis entertained with musical items. The hostesses were Mrs Enwisle, Sirs Evans, Sirs Fisher and Sirs Entwisle. CHELTENHAM RIFLE CLUB. A shoot for the Smithers Cup was held by the Cheltenham Rifle Club on Saturday afternoon, SI. Cummings returning the top score. Details of the scores are as 'follow : -—SI. The following riflemen have been selected to visit the Raumai range on Saturday next for a match with Pohangina Club: —V. ■ Barrow, P. Churcher, H. SlcFarlane, H. AVoods, S. Slayhew, J. Osborne. SI. Cummings, R. E. Stuart, J. C. AVilliamgon and S. Sandbrook. Anyone tinable to make the trip is asked to ring the secretary. On the local range a sweeptakes match will be held over ranges of 300 and 500 yards. PERSONAL. Sliss F. AATiibley. of Auckland, is the guest of Sirs D. C. Cullinane. AA’est Street. Feilding. Sirs P.
