TROTTING.
A SPEEDY PERFORMER. One of the most improved trotters in commission is First Wrack, from Durbar Lodge, Ashburton. This filly showed great speed when only two years old, and so highly did her connections regard her that they matched her against Koro Peter, another exceptional young trotter. The race took place in Auckland on a heavy track that was all against the filly and more in favour of tho big strong gelding. Just when it 6eemcd that First Wrack might develop into a top-notchcr a growth of bone in her nose put her out of commission. Several operations were performed, but it was several seasons before she raced again, and then it was thought that the obstruction had not been completely removed. First Wrack, however, has come back in great style, and can now be reckoned fit to take her place in any field of unhoppled trotters. Up to the present most of her racing has been confined to mile and a half events, and her last win was gained at Addington, when she went the distance in 3min 21 l-ssec, and won from Worthy Queen, who was conceding her 48 yards. The manner in which she finished did not suggest that she would have any difficulty in going another four furlongs. First Wrack ran in the Stew-* ards’ Handicap at Ashburton on Saturday, and won nicely from the two Bingen representatives, Stanley Bingen and Louis Bingcn. Nominations for the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on May 3 and 5, at which all the champions will compete, are exceptionally good, being 104 more than for the corresponding meeting last year.
