GREAT INCREASE SHOWN. EXPORT AND IMPORT. WOOL HELPS POSITION. (United Press Association—By Electri® Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 17, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, April 16. The Board of Trade figures for March, as compared with the corresponding period for the previous year, have been issued. Imports total £61,969,000, exports £33,068,000, and re-exports £5,631,000. Tlie principal increases in imports are : —Wood and timber, £648,000;. raw cotton, £690,000; wool, £309,000; seeds, nuts for oil, etc., £438,000; hides and skins, £499,000; rubber, £607,000; non-ferrous metals and manufactures thereof, £753,000. Exports have increased as follow : —■ "Wool, £414,000; non-ferrous metals, £442,000; woollen worsteds, yarns, and manufactures thereof, £447,000. Decreases in imports are recorded for grain and flour of £733,000 and for exports of coal £353,000; cotton yarns and manufactures thereof, £747,000; and vehicles, £987,000. RECORD OF EXPANSION. STAPLE INDUSTRIES’ ASSISTANCE. (British Official Wireless.) Received April 17, 11.55 a.m. RUGBY, April 16. Further expansion of British overseas trade is disclosed in the Board of Trade returns for March of the increase over March, 1933. Of £5,618,015 in imports over £4,000,000 is represented by increased imports of raw material and indicates additional employment in the staple industries. In every classification of imports of raw materials and articles mainly manufactured there was an increase last month over March, 1933. For the first three months of the current year the imports are valued at £25,690,789 more than in the corresponding period last year, but they are £9,620.612 less than in the first three months of 1932. Exports compared for the same periods show increases respectively of £5,011,995 and £2,387,333.
