SPECTACULAR CRASHES
SPEEDWAY DRIVERS’ ESCAPES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 15. Two spectacular crashes at high speed occurred at Henning’s speedway, Mangere, on Saturday afternoon, but in neither case was anybody hurt senously. The cars concerned were a Jtsrochvlands Riley, driven by Mr R. A. Dexter, junr., and a Millier, driven by Mr G. Mathieson, with _Mr R. Webb, as passenger. The Riley was damaged extensively, hut the Miller escaped with two buckled wheels. The crash in which the Riley was involved was more serious. Mr Dexter being flung bodily from his little car after it had struck the bank at over 70 miles an, hour. Mr Dexter, who escaped unhurt after a similar crash last year, rolled over several times and then, to the amazement of the crowd, stood up and surveyed the damage. He suffered minor cuts and abrasions to the face, arms and body. When the Riley struck the hank the door flew open, and Mr Dexter was thrown headlong. He fell clear and landed 911 a grass patch. His goggles saved his eyes.
