I’itOMOTION OF SCIENTISTS. Per Press Association. NELSON, April 16. Dr David Miller, chief entomologist at the Cawtliron Institute, lias been appointed Assistant-Director of the Cawtliron Institute, and Dr H. O. Askew, formerly pastures research chemist to the institute, has been appointed agricultural chemist and head of the chemical section of the agricultural department of the institute. Dr Miller was appointed to the institute in succession to Dr 11. J. Tillyard, and has held the post of chief of the entomological department for six years. Under his direction the department has shown great development and now covers a wide scope relating to biological control of noxious weeds and orchard, farm and forest pests. He lias successfully introduced parasites for the control of the mealy hug, horntail borer and other injurious insects. Dr Askew has had charge of the chemical side of pasture investigations and has made many contributions to the knowledge of the mineral status of pastures and the role of particular mineral deficiencies in the production of stock ailments.
