£3OOO LEGACY.
BANKRUPT'S WINDFALL. PRINCIPAL CREDITOR MISSING. HAMILTON, April 10. News of a legacy of £3OOO, of the existence of which he was unaware, has been received by a Waikato sharemilker who filed his petition in bankruptcy in 1927 and obtained his discharge last year. A few months ago his proved debts totalled £337 plus interest owing for seven years, but he has now paid 20s in the £1 and lias a considerable sum of money to his credit as well. After filing his petition, the sharemilker returned to the farm and' worked as an employee in the hope of one day repaying his creditors. It was not till after his discharge was granted that the Official Assignee became aware of the possibility of a legacy and entered into successful negotiations with the bankrupt’s relatives in. England, on bankrupt’s behalf. An unusual feature of the case is that Mr P. Bailey, the principal creditor, formerly of Hamilton, cannot be traced. He was owed £262 by the bankrupt, and with accrued interest the amount is now £375. It awaits Mr Bailey at the Assignee’s office. When last heard of, Mr Bailey was employed with Australian Airways, Sydney, but all efforts to communicate with him have been unavailing.
