VETERAN CLERGYMAN

DIAMOND JUBILEE OF WEDDING. Rev. Dr Robert Dey, veteran editor of the Australian Christian World, and Firs Dey recently celebrated the diamond jubilee of their wedding. Dr Dey is in his 86tli year, and All's Dey is more than 80. Later in the week a quiet function will be held at their home where they have lived for the last 20 years. Sons and daughters and grandchildren will be present. Dr Dey was born at Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Fie received his early education at Keith, Banffshire. His training was completed at Edinburgh University and at the Congregational Theological Hall in that city. After pastorates at Nairn and Glasgow, he came to Australia in 1880, and was located first at the Victoria-parade Church, East Melbourne. In 1882, he came to the Alarrickville Church, Sydney. He is one of the best known ministers in Australia.

For six years he was secretary of the New South Wales Congregational "Union. In 1891 he became owner of the Australian Christian World, and, when Rev. Dr Fordyce returned to England in 1894, Dr Dey became editor. With Alderman Moorhouse, of Marrickville, Mr Peter Forbes, Mr Fletcher Booth, and others, Dr Dey was instrumental in forming the Adult Deaf and Dumb Society of N.S.W. Mrs Dey was born at Fochabers, Scotland. She was the third daughter of the Rev. David Dewar, a prominent Disruptionist in 1843. Dr and Mrs Dey were married at the Free Church Manse, Fochabers, on April 3, 1874. Of their nine children, three died in infancy. Two sons entered the medical profession. The eldest, Dr Robert Dey, after doing home military service in various State depots, died at Epping a few months before the end 6f the Great War. Three sons (Mr David Dey, Dr Lindsay Dey, and Mr John Dey), and two daughters (Mrs F. S. Stuckey and Mrs A. H. Hinton) survive. The grandchildren living number 19 and the great-grandchildren three.
