LADIES’ HOCKEY.

past season reviewed. “Ladies’ hockey in this district has maintained the excellent standard of previous year’s,” says the annual report of the Manawatu Ladies’ Hockey Association. “Six teams entered for the Wednesday competitions, the number of players being slightly in excess of that in 1932. The representative team was called on to defend the Harper Cup on two occasions with credit to themselves, winning from Eeilding by 2 to 1 and from Bush Union by 3 to 1. Ituahine made 'a bold bid to recover the much-coveted Nopera Cup, but Manawatu proved too strong, defeating the challengers by 2 to 1. The champion of champions games brought together four competition winners, finally resulting in a win for Gladstone. The representatives competed at Dannevirke in the annual tourna.ment, and, although not so successful as previously, put up a splendid performance. The thanks of the association are due to those who so generously put their cars at its disposal to transport the team. It is pleasing to note that a fairly good credit remains to the association. The Manawatu Hockey Referees’ Association is to be commended on the manner in which the games were controlled and for the unfailing interest and support accorded. The association had the use of a ground in Park Road, and this was always in good order. The executive wishes to place on record its thanks to Mr Kenny (auditor), Mr C. Dixon (selector), the donors for their generous contributions to our funds, and the many supporters who have helped materially by their interest and advice. The association has had a splendid season and looks forward to stilly further progress in the coming year. STAFF DINNER. Grease marks on furniture and fabrics should be treated as soon as possible. Eucalyptus oil is the best medium for removing the grease spots from articles of clothing and furnishing fabrics. It is particularly, effective in the case of thin materials. Apply the oil by means of a pad of cottonwool and leave it to dry. Grease marks may be removed from brown shoes with powdered French chalk, j The chalk should be rubbed well into the leather. Grease spots on carpets will yield quickly to treatment with 1 turpentine, and a cut lemon will re-j move them from furniture.
