ATTACKS BY DOGS.
TWO INFORMATIONS BROUGHT. PENALTIES FOR OWNERS. Two informations alleging attacks by dogs were heard before Mr J. L. iStout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. , Basil Royal Broughton pleaded guilty to being the owner or keeper of a dog which attacked Mrs Annie Amos. “What is happening to these dogs?” inquired the Magistrate. “This is the third occasion in a week.” “I am sure I do not know what is the matter with them.” said SeniorSergeant Whitehouse. Mrs Amos, who resided at Bulls, he stated, was passing a car when the dog jumped at her and tore her dress so badly that it had to be replaced. Constable Goodwin considered the animal vicious, for when he called, as soon as it saw him coming it snarled and growled, and showed its teeth in a vicious manner. It had to be locked up before he could enter. The Magistrate: What kind of dog is it?
Mr Whitehouse: It is a cross between a colfie and a fox terrier. Evidently it has the badness of both breeds. The Magistrate (to defendant): What do you intend to do with the dog? Defendant: Keep it on the chain. The Magistrate: And make it more savage than ever. If this matter comes before me again I will order the dog to be destroyed. Defendant was fined 10s, with £1 2s 6d costs.
Donald lan Robertson pleaded guilty to being the owner or keeper of a fox terrier dog which attacked Albert James Goodwin. Mr Whitehouse said that Constable Goodwin was cycling along Ward Street when the dog, which was on the footpath, rushed out and bit him on the left leg. Defendant unsuccessfully tried to check the dog’s habit of rushing out. “Get rid of the dog if you cannot control it,” the Magistrate counselled defendant, who informed him that he had already done so. A penalty of 10s, with 3s costs, was inflicted.
