Mis A. Reedy, of Sydney, who has been spending a lengthy holiday with her sister, Mrs L. A. Elliott, of Feilding, has left on her return journey to Australia. The Misses Linton, of Picton, were visitors to Palmerston North over the week-end and were the guests of Mrs Coutts, of Terrace End. Miss Linton and her sister intend shortly to take np their residence again in this city. Miss Griffin, matron of the Old People’s Home, Awapuni, has returned to Palmerston North after spending her annual leave in Auckland and Tauranga. While in the north Miss Griffin had the pleasure of flying from Te Aroha via Takapau to Wellington, with Sir Charles and Lady Kingsford Smith in the Southern Cross.
Mr and Mrs Francis Brown, of Wanganui East, are the guests of Mr and Mrs R. W. Brown, “Glengarnock,” Waiata.
GOLF.
MANAWATU LADIES’ CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING HELD. There was a record attendance at the annual meeting of the Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club, held in the clubhouse yesterday afternoon. Miss E. Macmillan presided. Presented by the hon. secretary (Mrs L. Seifert), the report stated that the past sea.son had been a very successful one, and the club’s membership was now 137. Eighty players had taken part in the competitions and six B grade players had qualified for the A grade and eight juniors for the B grade. The annual tournament was most successful, there being 109 entries, which was a record for this fixture. The club was most fortunate in having Miss Oliver Kay and Miss Bessie Gaisford among the oompeti-
tors. Miss Kay won the open championship, also the Freeth Record Cup with, a score of 76. The club championship was won by Mrs H. C. Collinson, the middleweight championship by Miss R. Rutledge and the junior championship by Mrs C. G. Moore. Sixtv-seven contributed to the trophy fund. Nine inter-club matches were played during the season. The Rapley Cup was played for three times, Manawatu retaining the cup on each occasion.
It was decided that competitions be played as follow: First and third Tuesdays, L.G.U.; second Tuesday, bogey; Mrs Innes’s trophies, fourth Tuesday.
The question of the championships was discussed and it was decided that there would be no qualifying rounds, also that the handicaps be 18 and under for the senior championship, 19 to 26 middle weight championship and 27 to 36 junior championship. It was further resolved that the draw in the club competitions would be strictly adhered to. The first competition will be played on Tuesday, April 17. Mrs Marsack, Misses Rapley, K. Haven, I. Baker P. Ross and Jean Thomson were elected as new members. Officers were elected as follow for the ensuing year: —President, Mrs
L. A. Abraham; vice-presidents, Mrs J. P. Innes and Miss E. Macmillan; captain, Mrs J. F./ Field; committee, Mrs R. H. Billens, Mrs L. Speechley, Mrs J. C. Young, and Mrs A. McKegg; hon. secretary, Mrs L. Seifert; assistant hon. secretary, Mrs L. Cooper. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the retiring captain, Mrs A. E. Ekstedt, also Mrs L. Seifert (hon. secretary), Mrs L. Cooper (assistant hon. secretary), and Miss E. Macmillan.
The medal competition for Mr H. Collinson’s trophy (over nine holes) was much appreciated by the members. Miss K. Garner was the winner, her score being 48 —12 —36.
