MANAWATU REPERTORY SOCIETY.

The Man.nv.Ttu Repertory Society have chosen a play by one of the younger post-war dramatists, John Van Druten, tor their third venture, being staged on Thursday and Friday. The play, “London Wall,” was a great success in London, and it is anticipated that it will prove a popular choice. The scene of the play is a London office, and it deals with the lives of certain of the women typists. Mite Janus, the oldest of the staff, with her sympathetic interest in the youngsters, and her own tragedy, is an exacting character to portray, and she is played by Miss Ulu Hancock, whose long stage experience fits her for the task. The love interest is in the youngest typist, Pat Milligan, and “the boy” from downstairs,” Hec. Miss Muriel Richards, who played in “The Importance of Being Earnest” last year, and previously with the All. Saints’ Players, plays Pat, and her “boy” is Mr Graham Driver, who appeared in, a small part in “Loyalties.” The . other typist®. Miss Hooper, tile brisk one, and Miss Bufton, the tired onq, are played respectively by Mrs L. Potter and Mrs Linda Bennett, whose work is well-known to Palmerston North audiences. The head of the firm, Mr Walker, is played by Mr A. C. Zohrab, whose work in “Loyalties” will be remembered, as well as his parts in tlie W.E.A. productions, “A Bill of Divorcement” and “Arms and the Man.” Mr Brewer, the man who “thinks he is God’s gift to women,” is played by Mr Ralph Holmes, who has been seen previously in “Champion North” and “Fanny’s- First Play.” *The wealthy eccentric old maid, Miss Willesden, is portrayed by Mrs John Davidson, and the cheeky office boy, Birkinshaw, by Mr Claude Johns, both of whom are new to .Palmerston audiences. The play is being produced by Mrs L. Potter, whose experience guarantees the quality of the work. This year the play will be staged in the Empire Hall, which lias been furnished with comfortable scats.
