YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES.

Yesterday’s quotations oil the Wellington Stock Exchange confirmed the slightly firmer tendency that was apparent in the market at the close of last week. Trading was small, the bulk of the sales recorded being mado late on Saturday. Strong interest continued to bo shown in Government loans which showed a further hardening. The prices offered, however, failed to attract supplies, the only seller quoted being in 4 per cent, stock, 1940, at £lO2 ss. There was slightly more activity in local body and other debentures. Wellington Racing (Jlub, 8 per cents., 1935, advanced to £99. Banks showed very little change. National of Now Zealand were done late on Saturday at 84s sd, and Union of Australia at £lO 5s 6d. New South Wales were firmer. A sale mado late on Saturday at £34 2s 6d was followed by business yesterday at £34 ss, more being wanted at this figure. Pastoral' and gas shares were in demand at unchanged rates. Insurance were slightly firmer. Nationals wore sought at 18s 7d. New Zealands at 56s 9d, South British at 74s 6d, and Standards at 60s. Meat, coal, and timber shares showed practically no change. New Zealand Refrigerating, £1 paid, were wanted at 17s 3d. New Zealand Breweries were 3d -off at 39s 7d, but Staples moved up 4d, to 26s 7d. Miscellaneous shares were comparatively quiet. Colonial Sugars were unchanged at £65. Dominion Fertilisers wero traded at 17,s 7jd late on Saturday. Whiteombe and Tombs eased Is to 68s 6d, following payment of dividend. Wilsons Cement were firmer on a sale made at 26s 4jd. There was no business in mining shares, which were inclined to dullness. Gillespie’s Beach were firm at 2s 3d, but King Solomons cased to 4s 3d. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS. BETTER WOOL VAUES. GAIN AT WANGANUI. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, March 12. Realisations from wool sold in Wanganui at the two sales of the current season amounted to £823,434, as against a total of £267,222 obtained at the corresponding pales last season. This year 53,619 bales were disposed of as against 43,325 in January and February, 1933. The last auction here was on February 23. when 28.623 bales were offered and 22,469 wore sold. The total proceeds amounted to £277,877, the average price per bale being £l2 7s and the average price per pound 8.17 d. TALLOW AND HEMP. LONDON MARKETS QUIET. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated March 10, from the High Commissioner for Now Zealand, London Tallow. —Market continues quiet, but fair business has been done in mixed, fair to good at slightly easier prices.. Hemp.—Manilla market quiet and easier on larger production figures. “It” grade for March-May shipment quoted, sellers at £l3 15s. Sisal market quiet but steady. No. 1 grade for March-May shipment value £l7; for April-Junc shipment, £l7 2s 6d. New Zealand market quiet and small business has been done in common grade at £l3.
