Levin defeated Shannon by one run in the Horowhenua cricket championship, Iho match being played on the local Domain. Levin batted first and made 76—Brown 23, Taylor 13, Walker 7, and Hudson 8 making the highest scores. Spencer took 5 wickets for 20 and Roach 5 for 7. Shannon mado 75 —Rankin 14, King 1, Nepia 2, Roach 29, Mabey 15, Perry 5, Porter 0, Spencer 0, Mercer 1, Twist 0, Sirnes 0, extras 8.
In the Manawatu Tennis Association matches Levin played the return game on Snturdav with Shannon, on the local courts. The visitors were victorious by 15 sets to one. The following arc the scores, Levin players mentioned first: —Men’s singles : —Dr Thompson beat Graham, 10— 8; Astley beat Pope, 9--6; N. Thomson beat Johnson, 9—2; Porter lost to Bovis. 3—9. Ladies’ singles: Miss Calvcr beat hire Long. 7—5; Miss Kerr beat Mrs^Cronquest, 7—5; Mrs Porter beat Miss Quarrie, 7—l; Miss Palmer beat Mrs Graham, 7—l. Men’s doubles: Dr Thompson and Astley beat Graham and Pope, 9 —6; N. Thomson and Porter beat Johnson and Bovis, 9—3. Ladies’ doubles: Miss Calver and Miss Kerr beat Mrs Long and Mrs Cronqucst, 7—4; Mrs Porter and Miss Palmer beat Miss Quarrie and Mrs Graham, 7—2. Mixed doubles: Dr Thompson and Miss Calver beat Graham and Mrs Long, 9 —7; Astley and Miss Kerr beat Pope and Mrs Cronquest, 13—11; Thomson and Mrs Porter beat Johnson and Miss Quarrie, 9—5; Porter and Miss Palmer beat Bovis and Mrs Graham, 9 —4. Rev. Mr Campbell, of Newtown, Wellington, was the guest of Mr and Mrs C. M. Cronquest for the week-end. Mr L. _ Ohristopherson returned home from hospital on Saturday. The injury to his hand is making satisfactory progress. Nurse Ford is on her annual holidays, and is being relieved by Nurse Vurdette.
