TRAGIC DEATH.
VERDICT AT INQUEST
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 12. An open verdict was returned by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., Coroner, at the inquest concerning the murder of the taxi driver, James Hunter Blair, aged 53, who was found dying at the wheel of his taxi cab in King’s Road, Mount Roskill, early on the morning of October 15. It was necessary to call only three witnesses, the principal one being Detective-Sergeant McHugh, who conducted an intensive investigation of the crime. This failed to produce any motive, and although deceased was struck blows on the head, no weapon was found. “There can be only one finding,” said the Coroner, “that is that this unfortunate man died at the Auckland Hospital on October 15, and that lie was murdered by some person or persons unknown on that date. The cause of death was a fracture of the skull.”
