BRITISH SHIPPING.

DISCUSSION WITH DOMINIONS. * SYDNEY, Jan. 24. Hon. Alexander Shaw, chairman of the P. and O. Line, arrived at Sydney to-day on the liner Maloja. He commented on the decline of British shipping and 'the menacing effects of foreign shipping subsidies. He added that the British Government was well aware of the danger, but had evolved no plans for a solution. He intends to discuss Empire shipping problems with the Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand.

He will be a prominent guest at the anniversary regatta luncheon in Sydney Harbour, aboard the flagship, Maloja, on Friday. He then visits Brisbane, and later New Zealand. Another distinguished visitor by the Maloja is the Earl of Wemyss, en route for a holiday in New Zealand. He sails by the Wanganella on Friday.
