LATE MR D. G. RIDDIFORD.

The late Mr Daniel George Riddiford, whose death occurred in his 75th year at Marton on Sunday, was one of the most noted pastoralists and sportsmen of the Rangitikei district. A son of the late Mr Daniel Riddiford, who came from Yorkshire, England, he was born at Lower Hutt in 1859. Educated at Uppingham Public School. in the Old Country, Mr Riddiford returned to New Zealand in 1878, and spent several years on his father’s station, Te Awaiti, on the East Coast, about 30 miles from Martinborough. He subsequently acquired the station on the main road from Stanway to Halcombe. For many years'he was a member of the council of the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association. He sold and bought a place outside of Taihape called M'okau. Ho lived at “View Halloa,” near Marton, for many years. _ In hunting and polo circles Mr Riddiford’s name was well known. He formerly owned some first-class weightcarrying hacks, hunters and steeplechasers, and won numerous prizes at the various agricultural and pastoral association shows in Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Manawatu, Wanganui, and the West Coast, especially in the jumping and weight-carrying classes. He was a good shot and angler, and was a steward of the Marton Jockey Club. Mr Riddiford was twice married. His first wife was a daughter of the late'Mr Kelham, of Lower Hutt. There was one daughter, who now resides in England. His second wife was Miss J. Glennie, a daughter of the late Mr John Glennie, of New South Wales. Mr Donovan Riddiford is a son. Messrs Vivian, Daniel and Eric Riddiford are nephews.
