. Mr George Lansbury, the Opposition Leader, who last week broke a thigh, is fairly well and his condition is about the same. Mr Eric Mexted of Pahiatua, who entered a private hospital in Palmerston North to undergo an operation is, his friends will be pleased to hear, progressing favourably. Mr R.. E. Toogood, of Frederick Street, his friends will be pleased to learn, has recovered sufficiently from his illness to be able to leave hospital and return to his home. A visitor to Palmerston North is Mr J. M. Dunn, who, as Wellington provincial manager for Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., will supervise the opening of the new State Theatre to-mor-row night. ' - - The death has occurred in London of Mr Samuel Edgar Saunders, 0.8. E., president of Saunders-Roe, Limited, engineers, yacht builders and designers, and builders of aircraft. He was 76 years of age. A very old and esteemed resident of Otaki, Mr E. Ahern, of Convent ltoad, passed away at his residence on Sunday afternoon. The late Mr Ahern, who was born in Ireland 78 years ago, came to New Zealand when a young man. He was married in the South Island, and went to Otaki many years ago. He is survived bv his widow and a grown up family of two sons and three daughters. The sons are Hugh (Te IToro) and Patrick (Otaki), the daughters being Mrs Kriven (Palmerston North), Mrs Koskello (Otaki) and Mary (a Sister of St. Joseph’s Convent, Ohakune). Two sons were kdled at the war.
