effect of quota. ON ARGENTINE SHIPMENTS. DOMINION BACON INDUSTRY. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Dec. 2. In an address to the Farmers’ Union, Mr D. Jones, chairman of the Meat Board, gave figures showing the effect of the quota system on Argentine exports to Britain for the year ended March, 1932. Mutton and lamb, he showed, totalled. 5,972,405 carcases. The reduction for the present calendar year is 1,006,166 carcases and next year it will be 2,013,002 carcases. Beef will he reduced by 29,244 quarters. United Kingdom imports of foreign bacon last year totalled 11,405,932 cwts. and next year they will be reduced. to 4,099,775 cwts. Mr Jones said the Dominion pork and bacon industry was increasing remarkably. Killings in the first six weeks of last season were 13,000 and for the same period this year 31,000 animals.
