(From Our Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLE, Dec. 1. The Foresters’ Hall was crowded last night, when an open evening was given by the Woodvillo Girl Guides and Brownies for parents and friends. Tho function was most successful, and the public gained an -insight into tho fine work being done by this movement. The proceedings opened with roll call and company inspection, followed by Guido enrolment: Jean Keay, Juno Hurley and Margaret Hares. The lights were then put out and the company, forming themselves round an imaginary camp fire, delighted the audience with camp fire songs and rounds. On exhibition were most interesting displays by the Robin, Red Rose, Clover and Kowhai patrols, showing tho various useful things taught to the Guides. The results of the Junior Goldfinch Buttons croquet matches to date, played by members of the Woodville Croquet Club, arc as follow: —Mesdames Duke and Brice lead Mesdames Pritchard and Elder, 26 10; Mesdames Henson and Noble won by default from Mesdames Duke and Brice; Mesdames Henson and Noble beat Mesdames Murphy and Stowart, 26 —14. Yesterday a team from the Manawafu Croquet Club challenged the holders of tho stars and were successful by. 26 points to 9. Tho teams were as follow: —Manawatu, Mrs Benfield and Mrs Petrie; Woodville, Mrs McCarthy and Mrs McLaughlan.
