NEW 3YA STATION.
SUCCESSFUL FIRST TEST. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 1. Music iirom the new 3YA station at Gobble s Pass was heard by radio listeners last niarht, when the first unofficial tests on the air were carried out. Recorded music was sent out on 720 kilocycles, the old frequency of station 2YA and the allotted frequency of the new 3YA. Although it was a test for equipment and not for reception, radio sets in the city received the first broadcast in volume and clarity that surprised listeners.
The new station will operate officially on December 14.
Reception in Palmerston North was remarkably good and augurs well for the future. The station has a power of 2500 watts (five times the voltage of the old 3YA), this b,eing half the power of 2YA, with the. signals of which it compares very favourably.— “Microphone.”
