FORMER PRESIDENT.

CUBAN LEAVES CANADA. PRESENCE EMBARRASSING. By invitation of the Canadian Government, Dr. Alachado, ex-President of Cuba, has departed from Canada after being there for two months as a fugitive. The former President conducted himself quietly enough, but his presence was embarrassing from the standpoint of Canada’s trade with Cuba.

At the moment he is paying a visit to Poughkeepsie (New York State), but will probably leave for Europe soon.

Undoubtedly, he has been nursing the idea that he might attempt a coup-d’etat in Havana, and now he fears that Iris relatives and friends there might be imprisoned and tortured ; consequently, he has decided to move away permanently.
