ACCOUNTANT SLAIN.

EVE OF THEFT DISCLOSURES. The city of Portland (Oregon, U.S.A.) was startled on November 22 by the murder of Mr Frank Akin, the accountant who recently disclosed irregularities in the finances of the Harbour Board of Portland, totalling £40,000. The murderer slipped into Akin’s apartment early in the day and killed him with two shots in the forehead. Akin’s own revolver, which he carried at night, because of recent threats against him, was found in a bureau drawer.

Later Akin was to have appeared before the Legislature to recite details of thefts from the Portland Port Commission. Someone whom he intended to expose probably shot him.
