AMERICAN LYNCHINGS.
SAN JOSE CONTROVERSY. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 30. Air Herbert Hoover has entered the San Jose lynching controversy with a sharp direct exchange between himself and the Governor of California, Air J. Rolph. Y esterday the former President signed a joint statement with a number of educationalists and civic leaders at his home at Palo Alto condemning Air Rolph’s stand. To-day Air Rolph said: “I deplore the use of troops against our own people. Look at the mess we got into when our troops were called out at Washington against the bonus marchers.”
This has reference to Mr Hoover’s eviction of the war veterans in the summer of 1932, and drew a sharp co u nif e r-st at e m cut from Mr HE over accusing Mr Rolph of “gross ignorance of the facts,” and pointing out that no one w-as shot or otherwise injured. The calling of troops to Washington w'as done to prevent further bloodshed.
