ST. .JOHN AMBULANCE.
COMPETITIONS HELD. Three divisions of the. Palmerston North branch of the Wellington St. John Ambulance Brigade, last evening, took part in the first of a series of annual competitions at the Fire Brigade Hall. The Palmerston North Ambulance Division, under Superintendent W. H. Barnard, turned out 19 strong, the Palmerston North Nursing Division, with Mrs E. Coles as superintendent, had seven members on parade and the Palmerston North Technical School Nursing Division had 10 members, the superintendent being Mrs A. M. Essex. The members of the divisions assembled at 7.30 p.m., the kit inspection was made at 7.45 p.m. and the competitions opened at 8 p.m. Dr C. W. Peach and Mr D, Mitchell! judged the first aid work, and Misses Kelly and Madden the bed-making, roller bandaging apd oral questions for the nursing divisions.
Among those present was Mrs Gillwho for a long period gave . valuable sen-ice as the superintendent of the Palmerston North Nursing Division. The members of the divisions on parade showed keenness in their work and
the various. tests were quickly carried out. The winner of the first aid and home nursing competition was the Palmerston North Technical School Division B team with 192 points, Palmerston North Nursing Division gaining 187 and Technical School A 152 points. The first aid competition was won by Palmerston North Ambulance Division A team with 78 points, the B team being awarded 64 points. When announcing the results, ' the district officer, Mr G. G. Hancox,apologised for the absence of Dr Patts Mills, Mrs Barltrop and Mr F. W. Ward, of Wellington headquarters, and thanked the judges. Dr Peach, in reply, congratulated the superintendents and the competitors on the high standard of proficiency displayed, which had been . obtained only by regular practice, and expressed the hope that more evenings of a similar nature be held in the future. Supper provided by the ladies added to the enjoyment of the evening. The Technical School B team comprised Mrs Henderson, Misses B. Guthrie, J. Payne and D. White.' The St. John Ambulance A team-was Corporal Hatfield and Privates Lewis, Corry and ltaven.
