THEFT OF MONEY.

SENTENCES IMPOSED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 27. Terence Moncrief Nixon, aged 22, and Cyril Robert Hankins, aged 26, who were arrested in Australia in October for stealing £795, the property of the Labour Department at Auckland, were sentenced to-day by Mr Justice Smith. He said that Nixon’s downfall appeared to be duo to gambling. It was the old, old story. His theft was deliberate and probation was impossible. He would be detained in the Borstal Institution for three vears. Regarding Hankins, the Judge said he was not a party to the actual theft, but had shared in the money and thereby became a party. He would be admitted to probation for three years on condition that he paid £IOO to the Labour Department during the probation period.
