ASHHURST.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, Nov. 2. The homo of Mr and Mrs J. A. McDonell was the scene of _ a very happy gathering on Monday evening, when the friends of Miss Rachel Thornley, whoso marriage is shortly to take place, met to , tender her their good wishes. Decorations of streamers and flowers lent a festive air, and tho evening was pleasantly passed with bridge and dancing. A Monto Carlo waltz was won by Miss R. Thornley and Mr L. ' Red. A bountiful supper was served, after which Mr McDoncll conveyed the good 1 wishes of those present to tho guest of tho evening, and requested her to unwrap tho splendid array of gifts for tho kitchen, which had been brought for her. During tliis procedure a competition, guessing the contents of each parcel, was held, tho winner being Miss W. Snelling. Mr R. Thornley, on behalf of his sister, expressed her appreciation of the kindness shown her. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs A. VV. Trass, Mr and Mrs J. A. McDoncll, Mr and Mrs A.
