“MOBILISED FOR PEACE.” “Turkey has turned her back on the past. She has abandoned the leisurely methods of the bazaar and introduced a new honesty. That is a great achievement,” declares the President, Mustapha Kemal. During the 10 years since she elected the first President of the Republic, Turkey’s new principle of Government is government of the State for the State, enabling State control to possess an interest in all individual activities, reports the Angora correspondent of the Daily Mail. "It does not involve curtailment of liberties, only discipline in the interests of the country. The inhabitants have unanimously and enthusiastically fallen in behind their leaders, inspired by the President’s dynamic personality, with the result that great strides have been made in public health and education. Schools are springing up everywhere. Campaigns are afoot to defeat malaria and tuberculosis, while defence of the homeland is regarded as a most sacred obligation. Universal military service is producing smart well-disciplined troops. There is much activity in the navy. Turkey politically is taking the lead in the new “Balkan Locarno” at present developing and also expects a Budget surplus, with a favourable trade balance. Owing to control of foreign trade by tariffs and quotas, Turkey is especially aiming to stimulate agriculture by establishing sugar factories and cotton mills. Finally, it may be emphasised that Turkey is mobilised for peace.
