ASHHURST.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHIIURST, Oct. .30. A successful concert and dance in aid of the Farmers Queen fund was hold in tho Ashhurst Hall on Friday evening last. .Mr R. McDonald was in tho chair, the enjoyable concert programme rendered by Palmerston North and Feilding artists boing as follows:—Pianoforto solo, Miss K. Gifford; vocal solo, Mr N. Shelton; humorous sketch Mr and Mrs Tabor; vocal . solo, Miss Doherty; vocal solo, Mr Picrard; musical monologue, Miss Wright; vocal solo, Miss B. Dcwc: vocal solo, Mr W. Balmor; sketch,. Mr Tabor; vocal solos, Mrs Russell, Mr Picrard and Miss Doherty. During tho programme Mr McDonald introduced the Farmers Queen, Miss Joan Russell, to the audience and expressed tho hope of seeing her successful in her candidature. Supper was served by an efficient hand of ladies, after which tho prizes for tho competition were drawn by Miss Russell under the supervision of Mr Black. Several of the prizes were donated by the winners to tho fanners’ stall in Palmerston North on tho following day. Tho latter half of the evening was devoted to dancing, music being supplied by Mrs Hewitt. and other local pianists.
