FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”) Tin Lap, a foui'-year-old filly by Lapidary from Multini, made her first appearance for. the season at Cambridge on Labour Day. After being well back in the early stages of the race,’ she had Dark Marble doing his best at the finish. Motunau, who dead-hoated for second place in the Ruahine Handicap at Trcntharn, is a beautifully bi-ed mare by Liniond from Eulalie, by Absurd from Eulogy. She was originally bought for her breeding possibilities, but she should do well under silk before being retii’ed. Cordon did not last long in the Farmers’ Steeplechase at Cambridge, for he hit the second fence and came right down on his head. He was started in the Ladies’ Bracelet later in the day, but had to bo pulled up, and it looked as if ho had hurt • himself. His owner stated that this was the first time that Coi-don had ever hit a fence, either in training or in the hunting field. Mustang only started on four occasions as a throe-ycar-old last season, winning the Flying Stakes, six furlongs, at Rotorua, after running second in a similar event on the first day. He was produced in the Bardowie Handicap, six furlongs, and a half, at Cambridge, on Monday, and was one of the leaders into the straight, but failed to stay on over the last little bit. Mustang, who is by Musketoon, had boon galloping well at Te Arohn prior to the meeting, and he can bo expected to improve with a little more racing. Aesculus won the Victory Handicap at Trentham through his stamina. Ho is a brother to the Riccarton gelding Elude, by Night Raid from Tinihanga, . a mare bred for extreme speed. Aesculus can go fast and stay, but in the past he has earned a reputation for showing his best in his training gallops. If he will repi’oduce hie latest form, however, he will win good races this season. Croupier did not begin in his most brilliant style in the Collingwood Handicap on the second day at Trentham, but ho was handy enough when the straight was reached. From there ho failed to reproduce the brilliant finishing run that got him into second place on Thursday. For the second time this season lie left the impression that "one race was enough for him. Courtega. who ran second in the Spring Novice Handicap at Trentham had not raced previously, and sho regis-tei-ed an .attractive perfoi-mance, coming from nearly last over the concluding half mile She is a three-year-old half-sister by Grandcourt to the useful Arvada. She looks like being a very good performer for R. Johnson later in the season. She cost 47l,gns as a yearling, and now looks a great bargain. TEAM FOR THE SOUTH. INFLATION DOES AVELL Awapuni’s one New Zealand Cup candidate, Inflation, will go south to-morrow night in company with Hem-y of Navarre, In\ ercsk, and Bodylinc. While members of the Taper Money family have not a particularly good record where tho two mile contest is concerned; they have filled places on occasion, and it may be that Inflation, who registered quite a satisfactory performance in the Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick, is destined to establish history for his sire, for he fulfilled a ten-fur-long gallop quite satisfactorily on Saturday morning. T. Green will- ride the colt at Riccarton, v'hile he will also be associated with Invcresk, a youngster by Tea Tray from the Bezonian mare, Bebe, who was also the dam of Cupidon, the A.J.C. Derby winner. AV. H. Bowden will again bo associated with Henry of Navarro, but no rider has been determined for Bodyline, AV. Bi-ough-ton. who was to have ridden the two-year-old, having decided to attend the Auckland meeting along K. Voitro in preference to the Riccarton gathering. About a fortnight ago Mrs A. AV. McDonald, tho lady trainer of the aforepientioned performers, ricked one of her knees while exercising a horse and sho will enter a private hospital for treatment. in the course of a day or so. The mishap comes at a very awkward time, for it-will prevent her going south with her representatives and, with Mr McDonald still in Australia, she will rely on the head stable lad, J. Bromley, to supervise affaii’s on tho southern trip. A SEVERE LOSS. According to a report from England, M. Mai’cel Boussac has had the misfortune to lose his good horse Goyescas. The five-year-old broke his hind fetlock when running in the Prix du President de la Repubiique at Saint-Cloud on July 2, and although his owner tried every aid of veterinary science, he failed to save tho horse. By Gainsborough out of Zariba, Goyescas had won five good races in France this year, and M. Boussac had the highest hopes of the horse as a stud proposition. As a three-year-old, when trained ’by Basil Jarvis at Newmarket, Goyescas ran third to Camcronian in tho Guineas. He wa-> runner-up to Caerleon in the 1931 Eclipse Stakes, and again to Miracle in the big Sandown race last year.
