A fairly constant demand for capable boys requiring work on farms and sheep stations hah been encountered by the | Napier Central Committee for the Employment of Youths, and in this connection the value of the farm-training camp at Rissington has made itself apparent. A large number of boys who have taken advantage of the instruction available at the camp have been successful in securing farm work, and in practically all cases have proved thoroughly capable for the work. The usual period of training at the camp is six weeks, during which time all branches of farm work are covered. In all probability an early opening of the Southland freezing works will be necessary this seacson. It is probable that the works at Mataura and Makarewa will be opened on December 11. Last year the freezing season was not commenced until the first week in January, but it is hoped that a commencement in December this year will be the means of relieving the pressure when the main drafts arc being sent forward in January. The labour worries of last season arc not expected to recur, and at this early stage prospects, both from a numerical point of view and that of prices, are bright (says an Otago writer).
