POLLY ANNA CONCERT.
The annual concert of the Cuba Street Methodist Young Women’s Club, the “Polly. Anna’s,” was held in the church schoolroom last evening before a good audience. The performance evinced that a great deal of preparation had been made to ensure. success, and judging by the enthusiasm with which the various items were received by those present this end was abundantly achieved. Particularly acceptable were the burlesques and topical stunts, which appealed to the audience by reason of their novelty and good humour, the people rocking with laughter at the popular hits made. A pleasing -feature of the performance was a complete absence of “stageyness” and artificiality; everything was done :n a refreshingly natural manner. Miss Gwen Young in her Maori songs (in character) and Mrs Richards in her two songs elicited enthusiastic recalls, while the brief three-act playette “Amelia” was commendably performed. The audience was much pleased with the guitar items of Miss Lorna Perrin and Miss Whitehead, also the elocutionary, items by Miss Maud Lindsay and Miss P. Fraser. At the conclusion of the programme Miss Clare Boyce, on behalf of the
club, presented Mrs Richards, their leader, with a charming bouquet of flowers, the members joining in the singing “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” while Mr A. T., Fisher, on behalf of the Ghurch officials, expressed tlie delight of all at the 'splendid evening they, had spent. The proceedings closed with the singing of the National Anthem. The following is the programme ' submitted, Miss Gwencth Richards officiating as pianiste in an efficient manner: —Polly Anna chorus, the girls; chorus, illustrated, “Look for the Silver Lining” ; recitation, Miss Maud Lindsay; solo, “Pokare kare,” Miss G. Young; guitar duet, Misses Whitehead and Perrin; playette, “Amelia Obliges”; ballet, “Looking on the Bright side,” club girls; recitation, “For Jeffrey’s Sake,” Miss L.
