LAWN TENNIS.

METHODIST CLUB. . At the annual meeting of the Methodist Club it is expected that a large membership will be accepted, for the coming season. The finances _of the club are in a healthy condition and the following report shows that last season was a very successful one: “The club was opened for the season on September 28, 1932, and the attendance at the courts was quite good throughout the season. Thirteen new members were accepted into membership at the opening of the season, the majority of them young players, and two others joined during the season. Several inter-club matches were played and enjoyed. To close the season the committee arranged a combined doubles tournament and invited members of all clubs in the town. The response was very encouraging and a splendid afternoon was spent. The trophies were won by two of the club members, Miss Dewe and Mr Worsfold, with Miss Benge and Mr Murphy of St. Brigid’s Club runners-up. The Worsfold Cup for the ladies’ handicap was won by Miss Dewe, who also annexed the ladies’ championship. The Macßeynolda Cup for the men’s handicap was won by Mr Jack Jeffs, a comparatively young player, who deserved the honour. Mr G. Darragh won the championship. The games for the Whitehead Shield, ladies’ junior championship, were not completed. The No. 2 court was in excellent condition, but it was necessary to give attention to No. 1 court on several occasions. This court will need further attention this season. The thanks of the club are due to the vice-presidents and well-wishers who so generously gave their donations. There are a large number of young players in the club, and if they are to remain the older members must be loyal and stand by. The committee considered a request from the Intermediate Young Men’s Bible Class to allow them to join the club, paying a subscription of 2s 6d. The majority of these boys are at school and cannot pay the full subscription. The committee could not grant their request as there were several junior members paying a junior subscription of 7s 6d. The matter of allowing High School pupils beyonging to the Methodist Church to join, paying a small subscription, is a matter which should be considered by the committee, as the junior members now, if catered for in the right way, will constitute the membership of the future.” . DENTAL NURSE APPOINTED. , To meet the requirements of the Feilding Schools’ Dental Clinic the Health Department has approved of the appointment of an additional nurse. On Tuesday next Nurse McKinnon, of Napier, will take up her duties with Nurse Wimsett, who is at present in charge.
