SLANDER ACTION.
VERDICT FOR DEFENDANT. SYDNEY, Sept. 26. The jury in the Willis-Lang slander suit returned a verdict for the defendant Lang on all counts. Judgment was entered accordingly. Mr A. C. Willis, former Argent-General in London for Now South Wales, brought an action for slander, claiming £20,000 damages from Mr J. T. Lang, Leader of tho State Opposition. The suit arose from the Bulb by-election. Plaintiff alleged that Mr Lang addressed public meetings at which he inferred Mr Willis was under the domination and influence of political opponents of tho Labour movement, which seriously prejudiced his candidature as a Labourite; also that an attempt was made to hound him out of public life. Plaintiff’s counsel made frequent reference to Mr Lang’s debenture for £13,000 over the Labour Daily newspaper, and said he would prove by cheques that £SOOO which Mr Lang said he had advanced to that newspaper had been drawn from party funds.
