REMARKABLE ACCIDENT.
SEQUEL IN COURT. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 27. As a sequel to the sensational accident in Parnell in July, when two cars collided and Robert Burns, who was a passenger in one, had his neck pierced by a steel curtain rod, the driver of one car, Annette Tliorne George, was prosecuted to-day on a charge of negligent driving and failing to give way. The police withdrew the first charge and defendant pleaded guilty to the second. Her counsel said the facts were less serious than might appear. Burns had been discharged lroin hospital. The degree of negligence should not bo judged by the extent of the man’s injuries. Defendant was lined £2 and costs. Burns made a remarkable recovery. Before lie could be taken to the hospital the rod had to be sawn from the base by a hack saw. At the hospital the rest of the rod was withdrawn by a surgeon and a tube inserted to enable him to breathe meanwhile.
