COPPER MINE FIRE.

DAMAGE AT COBAR. Received September 27, 9.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 27. The great Cobar copper mine at Cobar, which has been idle for some years, is on fire. It is believed that somebody set fire to one of the bins. The poppet head was also set alight and was burned to the ground. The flames descended the shaft, dense clouds of choking fumes being given off. The smoke has enveloped the town.

Nothing can be done to extinguish the fire, which will probably burn to the water’s level in the mine.
