DOMINION DAY RECOLLECTIONS.
The unpropitious change in the weather to-day in Feilding. from i a bright warm morning to a cold j wintry day with steadv rain later, | awoke recollections of the first Do-1 minion Day- in Feilding in the memory | of an old resident. It was stated | that in 1907, when Dominion Day was inaugurated, there was very heavy rain in Feilding, flood waters coming down Kimbolton Road, a lake of water two feet deep being formed in tiro railway station yards. A local enthusiast took advantage of the dppor-
tunity to display his boating ability, the lake in tlie yards providing tlio chance. Photographs of the oarsman negotiating Kimbolton Road in his home-made canvas boat are in the povssession of local residents. It was recalled that shortly after this occurrence the Borough Council constructed the North Street drain, thus diverting flood waters to the Makino Stream.
