POSITION WEAKENED
THE AUSTRIAN CHANCELLOR. LACK OF SUPPORT. TWO LEADERS’ STANDS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September 19, 10.40 a.m. VIENNA, Sept. 18. The position of the Chancellor, Dr. Dolfuss, weakened as a result of yesterday’s open challenges from powerful groups led by Prince Starhemberg and Herr F.' Winkler, the vice-chancellor, respectively, which have nothing in common except opposition to the Nazis and Socialists, but which demand that the Chancellor incorporate their creeds in the new Constitution. Meanwhile, the Austrian Nazis are jubilantly watching the disputes. Prince Starhemberg emphasises that Dr. Dolfuss will receive the Heimwehr, that is the Fascist, support only if lie establishes a Fascist State on Italian lines. He says it is essential to clean out the Cabinet. Herr Winkler, while expressing loyalty to Dr. Dolfuss, declines to merge his own organisation in that of the Chancellor’s “Fatherland front.” COMPLICATING THE RIDDLE. Received September 19, 11.55 a.m. VIENNA, Sept. 18. The riddle of the party balances is complicated by the Socialists and trade union leaders’ decision to support Dr. Do Ifuss against any forih of Fascism, either Brown blurts or the Heimwehr. NAZI DEMONSTRATIONS. VIENNA, Sept. 17. After a demonstration at Graz 200 Nazis succeeded in decoying the police elsewhere, then stampeded the crowd. Twenty-eight were injured, many seriously. Armed police bayoneted a crowd at Spitalandergrau, when they rioted, following a Nazi demonstration. 'Nine were wounded.
