FOXTON BEACH.

EFFECTING IMPROVEMENTS. PAVILION TO BE ERECTED. In expectation of another busy summer season, and with a view to filling a long felt need in respect to the absence of a pavilion for the convenience of i-esidents and visitors, a meeting of the Foxton Beach Improvement Committee was held in Palmerston North yesterday, when Mr M. E. Perreau presided. Others present were Messrs A. Allsop, G. Watchorn, B. Pratt, J. 0. Boniface, W. Petersen, A. G. Dawick (treasurer), A. D. Macpherson (secretary) and Captain A. Nelson. In furtherance of its contemplated action, the committee considered a number of tenders for the erection of a pavilion and, after due consideration, one was accepted. 'The specifications provide for a handsome edifice, 40 feet in length, and equipped with four 600gallon tanks, which should meet the demands for water during the summer months.

Several other important works were discussed, and arrangements were finalised for various improvements. Extensive roading works will be concentrated on in the near future, while tentative arrangements are being made for staging a monster ga.la and sports carnival on New Year’s Day. Altogether the committee is doing a valuable work, and has tho interests of the beach at heart. At present important afforestation work is being carried out along the coast by the Foxton Harbour Board acting in conjunction with the Beach Committee. Some 35,000 trees are £o be planted on the dunes between the Manawatu Heads and the Konuta.roa stream. This should result in a handsome pinus insignis stand being established in a few years’ time. Some 30 or 40 men are engaged, and the planting, which started yesterday, is expected to occupy about a week.
