PERSONAL.
Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., who has been ill, had to-da.y sufficiently recovered from his indisposition to resume his duties. Mr W. H. Brown, of Palmerston North, has sufficiently recovered from his illness to be about again, but is leaving for Hawke’s Bay for a recuperative holiday of two or three weeks. His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, has appointed Messrs H. D. Acland and J. D. Ormond and Sir William Perry to be the producers’ representatives on the Meat Board for a period of two years from September !.■ A large gathering of officers of the Chief Post Office, Wellington, tendered a farewell yesterday to Mr T. C. Hobbs-Jones, superintendent of mails, who is retiring after 40 years’ service. The Chief Postmaster, Mr J. M. McLean, made the presentation of a travelling rug and fountain pen. Mr Hobbs-Jones is taking up his residence in Auckland. A fellowship at Yale University has been awarded to Mr W. S. Dales, research associate in Maori sociology at Auckland University College and an authority on Maori life and customs. He will leave shortly for America to join the Department of Education at Yale, where he will carry out research in sociology in keeping with his line of study.
A call from the Southbridge charge to Rev. R. R. Adair, of Auckland, has been sustained by the Christchurch Presbytery. Mr Adair was well known as a leader in Y.M.C.A. work in Dunedin. About five years ago he left with Mrs Adair to study methods of youth work in America and in Britain, and returning to New Zealand he spent last year in Auckland as agent of the youth work of tlie Presbyterian Church. This year Mr Adair lias been travelling secretary of the Presbyterian Young Men’s Bible Class Union.
