CITY COUNCIL CLUB’S REPORT

The report to be submitted at the annual general meeting of members of the City Council Cricket Club records a. most successful season, both as regards the success achieved by the team and the interest and enthusiasm displayed by the members. The chib entered an eleven in the junior competition under the jurisdiction of tlie Manawatu Cricket Association, and again maintained its exceptionally good record, and accomplished a meritorious performance in winning the junior championship. “Undoubtedly much of this success was due to the leadership of the club captain, Mr J. R. Hardie,” the report proceeds. “Although successful, in competition honours we heartily congratulate our opponents on the exceptional opposition which we always encountered. We also extend our hearty congratulations to the Palmerston Club, winners of the senior division. The team played 11 games, winning 9, drawing 1 and losing 1. Excellent individual performances were registered by C. A. Waugh, with a batting average of 73.9, and E. Morgan, bowling. 43 wickets a.t an average of 9.53. During the season 5 centuries were registered; those having the honour were C. A. Waugh (2), J. Gavey (2), and C. M. Turner (1). As most of the personnel of last year’s team are again playing, this augurs well for the forthcoming season. We expend our congratulations to E. Morgan, C. A. Waugh, J. Gavey, J. Burgess and H. Lane, who represented Manawatu on various occasions. The club’s finances are in a very satisfactory condition considering the large amount that was expended in purchasing new material. This will represent a great saving as requirements have thereby been greatly reduced. We were unfortunate this year in losiqg the services of Mr M. Davidson, whose appointment to another position necessitated a severance of his active interest in the club. He occupied a high position in the club, and whilst we regret his loss we extend our best wishes to him for every success in the future. The committee wishes to place on record the assistance rendered the club by its officers, especially Mr A. E. Mansford, and also the Press and others who have assisted us throughout the last season. The committee also desires to thank members for their support and wish to impress upon them the necessity of making every effort during the forthcoming season to further the interests of our club in order to maintain our prestige. The report would not be complete without expressing our heartiest thanks to our energetic secretary (Mr J. Gavey) for his valuable work rendered throughout the year, thereby making our club so successful. We also desire to tlianlc Mr C. Turner for his assistance as treasurer.” Leading averages for the past season are as follow :
