LATE MR J. S. L. DEEM.
MARKS OF RESPECT’
WANGANUI, Sept. 12
At the Chateau an inquest into the death of Mr J. S. L. Deem, on Mt. Ruapehu, was conducted by Mr A. Laird, of Taumaruiiui, who found that death had been due to natural causes, probably heart failure. On account of Mr Deem’s passing the Wanganui Rotary Club, which was to' have been addressed by Mr T. C. List, of New Plymouth, yesterday postponed its meeting. The Mayor, Mr N. G. Armstrong, sent a message from Rotorua to postpone the City Council meeting, which was to have taken place to-night. At the meetings of the Wanganui Garrison Band and the Wanganui Aero Club last evening, members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mr Deem. It is understood that Mr Deem’s death occurred shortly after he had partaken of lunch with Dr. Deem and Miss Rose on Sunday afternoon. He left the two ladies to walk up a short rise to take a photograph and suddenly collapsed. The late Mr- Deem will be accorded a military funeral to-morrow afternoon.
