BUILDING SUBSIDY
HEAVY FINAL RUSH. FIGURES JUMP RAPIDLY. AVitli the suspension of the building subsidy scheme due to-day, there lias been a heavy final rush to lodge applications at Palmerston North and there was a flood of them yesterday, when 51 were received. There were 17 on Saturday and 30 on Friday, while they were also coming in fast this morning. Consequent upon the suspension of the scheme, the figures have jumped rapidly. AA’lien the books were closed yesterday there were 376 applications in all since the beginning They represent an estimated value of £119,060 19s lOd, including £43,496 7s 2d, on which the subsidy payable is computed at £13.657. Since the compilation of these figures, applications having a total value of £IO,OOO had been forwarded to the department this morning. The figures for the past three days are as follow :
Friday.-—Value of applications £7OOO, including labour £I7OO, carrying subsidy £789.
Saturday.—\ 7 alue of applications £4082, including labour £9Bl, carrying subsidy £455. Monday.—A 7 alue of applications £11,863 11s, including labour £3,415 16s 6d, carrying subsidy £1396 15s Bd.
