GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI. . TRACKS HARD AMD FAST. (By “Binocular.”) Beautiful conditions were offering for training operations at Awapuni this morning, when a number of candidates r for Marton carried out their final gallops. The tracks were somewhat hard. Catalogue and Manawatu were worked early, the pair running half a mile on the centre of the course proper in 52 2-sscc. The latter was travelling nicely at the close and is now improving. Senegal (L. Gray) came homo from the three furlongs post in 58 3-sscc, completing his task very attractively. Nebulae (Broughton), Pango (S. Wilson) and Mercian Prince (Anderson) wore associated in a mile effort. They did not jump away too well, but nevertheless got to the end of the first two furlongs in 26 2-ssec five in 1.6 3-5 and the full journey in 1.47. Nebulae and Pango were on terms, but Mercian Prince, who found tho going rather hard for him, was a couple of lengths back. Arctic Region (Broughton), from practically a standing start, ran threo furlongs in 38 2-sscc. Tho Australian-bred gelding docs not always finish very generously in his races, but he has undoubted speed. High Society (Broughton) was a shade in front of Sir Romeo (L. Gray) at the end of a half-mile scamper. They covered the initial furlong in 13 2-ssec, two ill 26 4-ssec and tho four furlongs in 51 2-5 see, finishing on nicely. King Thomond (Voitre) and Thrasher (McDowell) strode away from beyond the mile and a distance post, but were not speeded up till five furlongs from home. They ran at an even 13sec to the furlong for the first threo furlongs, King Thomond drawing clear to complete his task in 1.5. Ho had a considerable advantage in the tveights and had tho inside running. Princess Joy (Anderson) and a Whirlwind filly strode over three furlongs in 42 l-ssec without being asked to extend themselves. Tho former is down to represent J. P. Coyle’s stable in the Juvenile Plate to-morrow. . Ythan (Chisholm), with a considerable benefit in the weights, had an advantage of half a length over Henry of Navarro (Bell) at the close of a seven furlongs gallop in 1.33 4-5, after taking 26 4-ssec for the first two furlongs and 1.7 for five. Calydon (Chisholm) finished a little too generously for En Vidctto (Bradley) after running the last throe furlongs in 3Bsec. Calydon will contest the Maiden Race tomorrow.

Hint (Thomas) was travelling better than Bold Jim (Voitre) throughout a three furlongs sprint which occupied 39 2-5 *ec. The latter is a big typo of maiden performer who will require time. Flaxen (Anderson) secured the better of the jump out from Bodyline (Broughton) and the latter never managed to make up the leeway, the filly holding him off to run two furlongs in 25sec. Flaxen, who shows distinct promise, will not race to-morrow.

The Captain Bunsby filly (Bradley) had the measure of Inveresk (Chisholm), a Tea Tray—Bebe colt, at the close of two furlongs which were traversed in 25 1-5. Mister Gamp (Anderson) was speeded up and the old fellow was travelling better than Celeste (Thomson) at the close of three furlongs which were negotiated in 41 l-ssec.-

Treasure Hunt will not be a starter at Marton. The Hunting Song gelding is slightly muscle sore at present and, with the tracks on the hard side, it has been deemed preferable not to race him meantime.

Ebeum and Park Acre did not attend the tracks this moring having already left for tho scene of action. It is the intention of Mr A. Havijl to race the former in both of the hack sprints.
