RATE OVER CITY
SPECIAL ORDER CONFIRMED. POWER BOARD’S DECISION. BRIEF FINAL DISCUSSION. The Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, on the motion of the chairman (Mr C. G. C. Dermei-) this afternoon took the final step, after a brief discussion, in imposing a rate over the city of Palmerston North.
Seconded by Mr W. P. Bickers, a was passed confirming the special order that a separate rate of 7-20 d in the £ on the unimproved value of all rateable property be made and levied over the Palmerston North city area from April 1, 1933, to March 31, 1934, to provide £3309 towards meeting the estimated excess of. expenditure over income. ' Objections to the proposal, numbering 860, were received from city ratepayers.
The resolution was opposed by Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P., J. Hodgens and J. Batclielar, who recorded dissenting votes. Mr M. A. Eliott was not present at the meeting, being absent in Australia.
The rate is payable in October.
