ALLEGED DEFAMATION.
PREMIER AS DEFENDANT.
SYDNEY, Sept. 5. Mr John C. Eldridge, the Labour candidate at the last election in the Premier’s constituency, Croydon, sued Mr B. S. Stevens, Premier of New South Wales, claiming £SOOO for defamation arising out of that campaign. Mr Eldridge alleged that his prospects were prejudiced by Mr Stevens’s public comments linking him with a religious controversy which occurred while plaintiff was a member of the House of Representatives some time before. A jury to-day gave a verdict m favour of defendant.
