MORE CASES IN NORTH

KAIKOHE, Sept. 5. ' Sleeping sickness, encephalitis lethargica, has broken out again in the Hokianga district, two cases, one of them fatal, having occurred. A native child, Matthew Cook, aged 2J yea.rs, in the Taheke settlement, was ordered to the Rawene Hospital by Dr. Smith, of Rawene, late on Thursday night, hut died before he could be moved. . The second patient is a Maori child named Rawiri, aged nine yea.rs, who lives at the Waima settlement. The case was reported on Friday, when the disease had not reached such an advanced stage as in the other ease. The patient was removed to hospital.in a serious condition, hut latest reports indicate that lie is showing signs of improvement. The local health authorities have decided not to impose any restrictions on account of this outbreak, hut if a.ny further cases are reported the measures taken to prevent the spread of the disease three weeks ago will again be put in operation.-

Three deaths from sleeping sickness occurred in the North last month, and the medical officers believed that another child died from the disease in the Whakapara district, Hokianga County.
