POLITICAL PARTIES.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —As one who lias followed the ebb and flow of the tide of events from an economic point of view for many years I am fully convinced that civilisation can only be saved by the establishment of a system of society based upon the common ownership and democratic control of the means and instruments for producing and distributing wealth, by, and in the interests of the whole community. Society as at present constituted simply provides a happy hunting ground for combines and monopolies, who have no compunction, when the opportunity offers, about pouncing down upon the small farmer or business man and confiscating his life's savings, as it is based upon the private ownership of the means of living (i.e., lands, factories, mine.?, etc.) by the privileged few, and the consequent enslavement of the many by whose labour alone wealth is produced.- The result is that there is a definite antagonism of interests manifesting itself as a class struggle between those who- possess but do not produce, and those who produce but do not possess. That this antagonism is against the best interests of humanity goes without saying, and can be abolished only by the emancipation of the workers from the domination of the privileged class by the conversion into the common property of society of the means of production and distribution and their control by the people for the people. As the So-« cialist Party holds human life as sacred, it will not tolerate anything in the form of violence, but appreciates the fact that education is the best brand of ammunition, and organisation the weapon. It also enters the political arena opposed to all other political parties, whether alleged Labour, Communists, or avowedly Capitalist, so I trust that this will have the effect of awakening many good meaning citizens who have unfortunately been lulled into a sense of false security for far too long for their own good, and who I trust will become members of our ranks, and will become thoroughly conversant with the fundamental principles of Socialism, so as to help with the onward march of this great organisation.—l am, etc. | H. E. DALLEY.
