MAORI CEREMONY.

LATE MR HILL HONOURED

TAUPO, Sept. 4. An interesting Maori ceremony was performed yesterday at Waipahihi Pa, Taupo, the occasion being the planting of a totara tree in memory of the late Mr Henry Hill, Fellow of the Geological Society and school inspector. Speeches of welcome to members of Mr Hill’s family and visitors were made by the chiefs ltokeno and Ngamotu. They referred gratefully to the friend : ship and support given to the Maori race by the late Mr Hill. Mr C. 0. Morse, Mayor of Napier, replied. He said he had known Mr Hill for 45 years. He had also been Mayor of Napier. Mr Morse planted a tree and the ceremony was followed by a service conducted by Rev. Mr Ei’umi and Itcv. Mr Laughton.
