INDIAN MONSOON.
TOLL OF DEATH. CALCUTTA, Sept. 2. It is many years since the Indian monsoon has taken so heavy a toll in death and destruction as has followed in the wake of this year’s excessively heavy rainfall. Vast stretches of country are under water, and buildings have collapsed on all sides owing to their having been weakened . by the flood waters. The death-roll was added to yesterday, when sixteen persons were killed by a collapsing verandah in Alwar during a religious ceremony.
